Uraemic pruritus

**Definition:** Pruritus in patients with chronic renal failure. Although common in untreated chronic kidney disease, it is particularly prevalent in patients receiving peritoneal or haemo-dialysis. The itch is not due to elevated serum urea levels. The precise mechanisms are not fully understood.
