Emergency Conditions Exception

The Emergency Conditions Exception permits motor carriers to deviate from standard hours-of-service limits when a driver must respond to an unforeseen emergency such as a natural disaster, severe weather, or a vehicle breakdown, provided the action is necessary to protect life, property, or public safety. The exemption is limited in duration and must be documented and reported to FMCSA according to regulatory requirements.
