Rocio viral encephalitis
**Definition:** A disease of the brain, caused by an infection with Rocio virus. In the first phase, this disease is characterised by a fever, headache, vomiting, or conjunctivitis; in the second phase, this disease is characterised by neurological symptoms and muscle weakness. Transmission is through the bite of an infected mosquito. Confirmation is by identification of Rocio virus in a serum or cerebrospinal fluid sample.
