Acute epidemic haemorrhagic conjunctivitis
**Definition:** A disease of the conjunctiva, caused by an infection with enterovirus. This disease is characterised by painful and red eyes, swollen lids, conjunctival follicles, chemosis, or subconjunctival haemorrhage. Transmission is by direct contact, or contact with contaminated water.
