Chronic hepatitis B with human immunodeficiency virus co-infection
**Definition:** A liver disease characterised by liver inflammation and fibrosis caused by more than 6 months of infection with the hepatitis B virus and with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Clinical features include fatigue, hard liver edge and complications of cirrhosis (muscle wasting, ascites, splenomegaly/portal hypertension), and outcomes, including hepatocellular carcinoma are worse than for hepatitis B without HIV infection.
