Focal epithelial hyperplasia of oral mucous membranes

**Definition:** Otherwise known as Heck disease, this is due to infection of the oral mucosa by human papillomavirus types 13 or 32. It most commonly presents as multiple smooth mucosal papules, giving rise to a cobblestone appearance. It is particularly common in children from native communities of the Americas with incidence rates of up to 30% reported.
