Herpes simplex infection of the eye

**Definition:** A condition of the eye, caused by an infection with herpes simplex virus type 1 or 2. The condition is characterised by blepharoconjunctivitis or keratitis. Transmission is by direct contact. Confirmation is by identification of herpes simplex virus type 1 or 2.
