Candida balanoposthitis

**Definition:** A disease caused by an infection with the fungi Candida (commonly Candida albicans). This disease is characterised by inflammation of the glans or prepuce. This disease may also present with eroded white papules, or white discharge. Transmission is by sexual contact. Confirmation is by identification of Candida in a sub-preputial swab or urine sample.

**Long definition:** An infection of the glans penis and/or prepuce with candida yeasts. It may be transmitted through sexual intercourse with an infected partner but may also be a presenting sign of diabetes mellitus. It presents as pink or red patches on the glans and inner surface of the prepuce rash. Satellite eroded pustules may be apparent. Itching, tenderness, discharge and preputial swelling may occur and in severe cases, it may be difficult to retract the foreskin. Candidal balanitis may be associated with candidosis elsewhere, e.g. crural folds.

**Inclusions:** - Candidosis of penis - Penile thrush
