Kerion

**Definition:** Kerion results from a severe host inflammatory response to dermatophyte infection of the hair follicles of the scalp or beard. It typically presents as a single painful, severely inflammatory, suppurating boggy mass and is most commonly a reaction to a zoophilic dermatophyte infection especially Trichophyton verrucosum (cattle ringworm) or Trichophyton mentagrophytes.
