Trichuriasis
**Definition:** A disease of the small intestine, caused by an infection with the parasitic worm Trichuris trichiura. This disease is commonly asymptomatic. This disease may also present with painful diarrhoea (containing a mixture of mucus, water, or blood). Transmission is by the faecal-oral route. Confirmation is by identification of Trichuris trichiura eggs in a faecal sample.
