Refractory anaemia with excess of blasts

**Definition:** A myelodysplastic syndrome characterised by bi-cytopenia or pancytopenia and dysplastic changes in one or multiple lineages, with 5-19% myeloblasts in the bone marrow, 2-19% blasts in the blood, or <20% blasts with the presence of Auer rods.
