**Definition:** A primary neoplasm involving the base of the tongue, often associated with chronic alcohol and tobacco use, older age, certain geographic locations, a family history of upper aerodigestive tract cancers and/or certain nutritional deficiencies and infectious agents.

**Exclusions:** - Malignant mesenchymal neoplasms
