Microangiopathic haemolytic anaemia

**Definition:** This is a microangiopathic subgroup of haemolytic anaemia (loss of red blood cells through destruction) caused by factors in the small blood vessels. It is identified by the finding of anaemia and schistocytes on microscopy of the blood film.
