Acquired pure red cell aplasia

**Definition:** This refers to a chronic and acquired type of anaemia affecting the precursors to red blood cells but not to white blood cells. In Pure red cell aplasia (PRCA), the bone marrow ceases to produce red blood cells.

**Exclusions:** - Aplastic anaemia with paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobulinuria
