Drug-induced liver hypersensitivity disease

**Definition:** Drug-induced liver hypersensitivity disease is a relatively rare condition, but can have serious consequences for the individual patient, public health, regulatory agencies and the pharmaceutical industry. It is characterised by elevation in serum alanine-aminotransferase (ALT), conjugated bilirubin, or combined bilirubin, ALT and alkaline phosphatase (AP) levels > 2 times the upper limit of normal (ULN) and the most frequent related drugs are halothane, tienilic acid, dihydralazine, diclofenac, and carbamazepine.
