Secondary hyperthyroidism

**Definition:** Overproduction of thyroid hormone in the thyroid gland induced by dysfunction of the pituitary gland or hypothalamus.

**Exclusions:** - Generalised resistance to thyroid hormone - Selective pituitary resistance to thyroid hormone
