Erythropoietic porphyrias

**Definition:** Erythropoietic porphyrias are associated clinically with photosensitivity and biochemically with abnormal accumulation of porphyrins in erythrocytes. They include erythropoietic protoporphyria and the very rare congenital erythropoietic porphyria.
