Rheumatic aortic valve insufficiency

**Definition:** Aortic insufficiency is the leaking of the aortic valve of the heart that causes blood to flow in the reverse direction during ventricular diastole, from the aorta into the left ventricle. Rheumatic fever causes the valve cusps to retract.

**Inclusions:** - rheumatic aortic incompetence - rheumatic aortic regurgitation

**Exclusions:** - Active or acute rheumatic endocarditis of aortic valve
