Lipodermatosclerosis
**Definition:** Lipodermatosclerosis is a form of panniculitis of the lower legs that develops in the context of venous insufficiency, giving rise to features that include oedema, erythema, hyperpigmentation and induration. In the acute phase tenderness, erythema and oedema predominate and may mimic cellulitis. As the condition becomes chronic, post-inflammatory pigmentation, fibrosis and lymphoedema predominate, sometimes resulting in the lower leg assuming an “inverted champagne bottle” appearance.
