Pneumonia due to Klebsiella pneumoniae
**Definition:** A disease of the pulmonary system, caused by an infection with the gram-negative bacteria Klebsiella pneumoniae. This infection common presents with thick, haemorrhagic, mucoid sputum. Transmission is by inhalation of infected respiratory secretions. Confirmation is by identification of Klebsiella pneumoniae in a sputum sample.
