**Definition:** Infection of the soft tissues of the mouth resulting in cellulitis and/or abscess formation.

**Exclusions:** - Periapical abscess with sinus - Periapical abscess with facial involvement - Periapical abscess without sinus - Peritonsillar abscess - Abscess of salivary gland
