Autoimmune gastritis

**Definition:** A type of chronic atrophic gastritis restricted to gastric body mucosa, and characterised by a severe atrophy of the acid secreting glands and achlorhydria. This is usually associated with serum antiparietal cell antibody, with or without pernicious anaemia.
