Megacolon

**Definition:** Megacolon is a descriptive term indicating an abnormal dilation of large intestine. The dilatation is often accompanied by a paralysis of the peristaltic movements of the bowel.

**Exclusions:** - Congenital megacolon - Hirschsprung disease
