Microscopic colitis
**Definition:** A condition of inflammation of the colon that is only detectable when the colon's lining is examined under a microscope. The endoscopic appearance of the inner colon lining is normal. There are two types of microscopic colitis: lymphocytic colitis and collagenous colitis.
