Penile melanotic macule

**Definition:** Discrete circumscribed area of macular hypermelanosis affecting the glans penis or the shaft of the penis. These are much commoner than melanoma of the penis but may be clinically suspected to be melanoma and thus require biopsy. By definition the cause is unknown.
