**Definition:** Loss of skin pigment due to exposure to depigmenting agents such as hydroquinone, which is frequently employed as a cosmetic skin lightener, and industrial chemicals such as 4-tert-butylcatechol (PTBC) and para-substituted phenols (PSP).
