Male pattern hair loss
**Definition:** Male pattern hair loss (common baldness; male androgenetic alopecia) is the result of a progressive, patterned hair loss mediated by exposure to androgens. Although over 90% of men demonstrate some degree of frontoparietal recession of the hairline by the age of 20, the extent of hair loss is genetically determined and only 30% of men ever develop extensive hair loss.
