Secondary gout
**Definition:** Secondary gout refers to those cases that develop during the course of another disease, or as a consequence of treatment with drugs. Secondary gout is associated with increased purine biosynthesis de novo, increased nucleic acid turnover, or decreased renal clearance of uric acid.
