Infection of intervertebral disc

**Definition:** A condition of the intervertebral discs, caused by an infection with a bacterial, viral, fungal, or parasitic source. This condition commonly presents with fever, chills, headache, stiffness of the neck, or tingling sensations in the arms or legs. Confirmation is by identification of the infectious agent in a blood sample, or radiographic tests.
