Spontaneous rupture of muscle

**Definition:** This is a spontaneous tearing or separation of muscle fibres from other muscle fibres and/or tendons in the absence of trauma.

**Long definition:** The spontaneous tearing or separation of muscle fibers from other muscle fibers and/or tendons due to degenerative weakness in the absence of trauma.

**Exclusions:** - rupture of tendon - traumatic rupture of muscle - see injury of muscle by body region
