Follicular cyst of ovary

**Definition:** A condition of the ovary, caused by a follicular growth or involution due to failure of ovulation. This condition is characterised by the non-neoplastic formation of closed sac-like structures filled with fluid on or in the ovary and lined by layers of granulosa cells. This condition is commonly asymptomatic, but may also present with pelvic pain, irregular menstrual bleeding, dyspareunia, nausea, vomiting, or urgency to urinate. Confirmation is by imaging.
