Acquired atrophy of ovary or fallopian tube

**Definition:** A condition of the ovary and Fallopian tube, caused by determinants such as infection, chemotherapy or radiation therapy, or shock, arising after birth. This condition is characterised by the partial or complete decrease in size and function of the ovary and the Fallopian tube, premature menopause, fatigue, irregular menstruation, weight gain, and irritability. Confirmation is by identification of elevated levels of oestrogen and follicle stimulating hormone levels in a blood sample.
