**Definition:** Distention of the pelvis and calices of the kidney with urine as a result of obstruction of the ureter not caused by strictures or stenoses of the ureter or by ureteral stones.

**Exclusions:** - Congenital hydronephrosis - Congenital vesico-uretero-renal reflux
