Neonatal tracheitis

**Definition:** A disease of the trachea in neonates, caused by an infection with a bacterial, viral, or fungal source. This disease is characterised by stridor, or increased respiratory effort. Transmission is commonly by inhalation of the infectious agent. Confirmation is by direct laryngoscopy.
