Triphalangeal thumb
**Definition:** A condition caused by failure of the thumb to correctly develop during the antenatal period. This condition is characterised by a long, finger-like thumb with three phalanges instead of two. Isolated triphalangeal thumbs may be associated with genetic abnormality in the 7q36 region.
