Haematemesis
**Definition:** Vomiting of blood that is either fresh bright red, or older "coffee-ground" in character. Vomiting blood is a regurgitation of blood through the upper gastrointestinal tract and it generally indicates bleeding of the upper gastrointestinal tract.
**Long definition:** Haematemesis is blood in the vomit. Vomiting blood is a regurgitation of blood through the upper gastrointestinal tract. The upper gastrointestinal tract includes the stomach, mouth, throat, esophagus, and the first part of the small intestine.
