Acute skin injury due to skin contact with corrosive substance
**Definition:** A chemical skin burn is an acute, severe irritant reaction to skin contact with corrosive or caustic substances sufficient to cause cell necrosis. The corrosive potential of substances depends on their chemical properties, concentration and pH, and on the duration and type of skin contact. Occlusion has an additive effect.
