Orthopoxvirus monkeypox Clade I
**Definition:** Based on the virus genome sequence there are two clades/variants of the Orthopoxvirus monkeypox recognised; Clade I and Clade II. Monkeypox virus has been renamed to Orthopoxvirus monkeypox by the ICTV in 2024.
