RFC Categories

The RFC classification groups documents published by the Internet Engineering Task Force into categories that indicate their status and purpose. Categories include Standards Track documents that become Internet Standards, Best Current Practice notes, Informational and Experimental RFCs, and Historic records of obsolete specifications. This system helps developers and network operators identify the relevance and authority of each RFC.
