**Definition:** A fatty acid-binding protein expressed by ASTROCYTES during CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM development, and by MALIGNANT GLIOMA cells. It is also expressed by ASTROCYTES in response to injury or ISCHEMIA, and may function in repair of the MYELIN SHEATH.
