AlkB Homolog 5, RNA Demethylase

**Definition:** A dioxygenase and alkylation repair homolog that demethylates RNA by oxidative demethylation. It specifically demethylates N(6)-methyladenosine (m6A) RNA, the most common internal modification of MESSENGER RNA in higher eukaryotes. It can also demethylate N(6)-methyladenosine in SINGLE-STRANDED DNA.
