Tudor Domain

**Definition:** A conserved, approximately 50 amino acid, protein sequence that adopts a characteristic strongly bent, five stranded anti-parallel beta-sheet barrel-like fold. The Tudor domain recognizes dimethylated ARGININE through its negatively-charged surface and occurs in many proteins that co-localize with RNA; RIBONUCLEOPROTEINS or SINGLE-STRANDED DNA complexes in the CELL NUCLEUS; MITOCHONDRIA; or KINETOCHORES.
