Eryptosis

**Definition:** Suicidal death of ERYTHROCYTES which results in features typical of apoptotic nucleated cells such as cell shrinkage, membrane blebbing, and scrambling of cell membrane to expose membrane PHOSPHATIDYLSERINES, which triggers engulfment and degradation by MACROPHAGES.
