Discs Large Homolog 1 Protein
**Definition:** A signaling adaptor protein that contains three PDZ DOMAINS; an SH3 DOMAIN; and a GUANYLATE KINASE-like C-terminal region. It has an essential role in animal development and recruits ion channels, receptors, and signaling molecules to discrete plasma membrane regions of polarized cells in the HEART ATRIA MYOCARDIUM. It functions in the assembly of ADHERENS JUNCTIONS and regulation of CELL PROLIFERATION; synaptogenesis, LYMPHOCYTE ACTIVATION; and controls expression of KV4 POTASSIUM CHANNELS to regulate excitability of CARDIAC MYOCYTES.
