**Definition:** A secreted serine protease that contains a Kazal domain-like region and a C-terminal PDZ domain. It has a broad range of targets that include EXTRACELLULAR MATRIX PROTEINS; PROTEOGLYCANS; and INSULIN-LIKE GROWTH FACTOR BINDING PROTEINS. Mutations in the HTRA1 gene are associated with AGE-RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION 7 and Cerebral Autosomal Recessive Arteriopathy with Subcortical Infarcts and Leukoencephalopathy (CARASIL).
