**Definition:** A genus of fungi in the family Didymellaceae, order Pleosporales and phylum ASCOMYCOTA. Phoma fungi are ascomycetes commonly found in soil and aquatic environments including water distribution systems. Opportunistic superficial infection with Phoma fungi is PHAEOHYPHOMYCOSIS.
