Daphnia magna

**Definition:** A relatively large freshwater water flea with characteristic transparent chitin CARAPACE that extends into the head shields. It is found both in ephemeral rock pools, ponds and lakes. Daphnia magna is a model system for various ecological, ecotoxicological and biomedical studies.
