Cystitis, Hemorrhagic

**Definition:** A diffuse inflammation of the URINARY BLADDER characterized by HEMATURIA due to bleeding from the bladder mucosa. Hemorrhagic cystitis is most often associated with infections, e.g., HUMAN ADENOVIRUS INFECIONS, but may also be due to other noninfectious etiologies: CHEMOTHERAPY with certain drugs, e.g., CYCLOPHOSPHAMIDE and IFOSFAMIDE, and RADIOTHERAPY.
