**Definition:** A GAP JUNCTION alpha subunit containing four transmembrane domains expressed in the atrial myocardium and ventricular HEART CONDUCTION SYSTEM including PURKINJE FIBERS. Mutations in the human gene GJA5 are associated with cardiac conduction abnormalities such as a familial ATRIAL FIBRILLATION.
