Bothrops atrox

**Definition:** A species of venomous pit viper of the BOTHROPS genus. Bothrops atrox are found in the tropical lowlands of northern South America east of the Andes and Trinidad where it is called mapepire balsain. B. atrox is more commonly called common lancehead and fer-de-lance. BATROXOBIN is usually isolated from B. atrox venom.
